STATUM supports the Yacht Club Punta del Este's new participation in the Clipper Race
SUMMARY:
The Yacht Club Punta del Este (YCPE) makes history once again by being chosen, for the fourth consecutive time, as the host port for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the world's most challenging ocean race.
INFORMATION:
In its 2025-2026 edition, the competition will call on the peninsula in October, with an estimated stay of more than ten days. It will be the only South American stop on this international circuit that unites sailors from around the world.
STATUM once again supports the Yacht Club Punta del Este and reaffirms its commitment to the sporting development, innovation, and global projection of Uruguay. The company's support represents a strategic endorsement of an institution that has consolidated its international prestige thanks to its infrastructure, organization, and the hospitality that characterizes the country.
An alliance that boosts Uruguayan leadership
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, founded by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston—the first man to sail solo and nonstop around the world in 1969—is one of the most demanding competitions in nautical sports. More than 700 non-professional crew members from over 40 nationalities participate, distributed across 11 identical sailboats, covering nearly 40,000 nautical miles across five continents.
Since its first stop in 2017-2018, Punta del Este has established itself as a leading host port, welcoming thousands of international visitors and generating an estimated economic impact of more than $1.2 million per race. In addition to its hosting role, the YCPE has competed with its own team in recent editions, consolidating its reputation as a leading institution in nautical sports.
In the next edition, the Yacht Club Punta del Este will once again represent the country in the global regatta, under the command of French skipper David Sautret and Irish first mate Lorraine O’Hanlon. The team will continue the legacy started by Uruguayan Fernando “Nano” Antía, who captained the boat in 2023, the year in which the club celebrated its centennial with a historic victory by crossing the finish line first in its home port.
The Commodore of the Yacht Club Punta del Este, Juan Etcheverrito, emphasized that “being chosen for the fourth time as the official port of the Clipper Race is a collective achievement. It is the result of hard work, a passion for sailing, and an institutional commitment to projecting Uruguay to the world".
