Internet Access in Uruguay

According with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Uruguay is the Latin American country closest to perfect equality in Internet access. The latest report of ECLAC, "The new digital revolution: From the consumer Internet to the industrial Internet", states that "flows of goods and services, financial assets, persons, information and communication have grown vigorously in the last few years as a result of economic growth, particularly in emerging countries, and the mass dissemination of digital technologies and the Internet."

As for Uruguay, the report highlights that it has reached almost perfect equality in Internet access, which has an important impact on patterns of economic growth and social inclusión. Furthermore, the percentage of rural households with Internet access in Costa Rica and Uruguay is greater than that of urban households in El Salvador, Guatemala and Bolivia.
The report also highlights that “the curve for Uruguay is notable for its closeness to perfect equality in Internet access”.
In the latest E-Government Survey, Uruguay went up 24 positions with respect to the 2012 edition. It is ranked first regionally, third worldwide in terms of digital participation and fourteenth from a total of 193 countries in terms of digital services.
The country is reaching its goal of completing 1,700 online procedures and, according to the abovementioned report, citizens have access to 100% of information of online procedures. There are a total of 80 services for the exchange of information between state agencies, thanks to which 38,000 daily queries and transactions that used to consume time and resources of the people have been removed.
What is more, our country has met the planned standards regarding active transparency of information and 90% of ministries already have e-management.
In 2009, STATUM won the tender to provide a tool and an implementation methodology for the Management of Document Administration and Business Processes for the whole country, which is why our company is very pleased to write part of history and to be part of this important transformation which covers the entire Central Administration of Uruguay and to be involved in the decentralization of information access in the whole country.
