Executive Branch expects citizens to be able to start all procedures via Internet by the end of 2016
Summary:
The current government will invest $40.000.000 in the current period of government in order for citizens to be able to start all procedures via Internet by the end of this year and thus put an end to the "paper format" bureaucratic system that delays citizens when carrying out procedures in public agencies.
Information:
A millionaire loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will allow procedures to be carried out online, after the Agency for e-Government development (AGESIC for its Spanish acronym) signed a loan with the abovementioned institution that will allow Uruguay to access $ 35.000.000 for a plan to develop online public procedures.
The State will provide $ 5.000.000 that will come from General Revenues; this will be added to the initial amount of the IDB. This money will be used for the following: equipment, human resources, services and software. This way, the official goal is for citizens to be able to start all procedures in public agencies online.
Within the overall objective, it is expected that users will be able to view the data and documents required for each procedure, take numbers or make appointments, when necessary, and send their personal information in e-forms via Web. The next objective will be for citizens to be able to complete online procedures via Internet.
If this is achieved, the costs generated by the interaction between citizens and companies with the central administration will be significantly reduced. The streamlining of procedures, online coverage and the promotion of these services will also focus on “lower income segments”, in the words of Mr. José Clastornik, Engineer, CEO of AGESIC.
Current Situation of Online Procedures
Citizens can already start processes in public agencies in www. trámites.gub.uy.
According to this webpage, 2,074 procedures can be started online in the platform so far.
The most accessed procedures are: renewal of ID cards, certificate of criminal record, duplicate of electricity bill, issuance of certificates, traffic tickets, issuance of ordinary passport for the first time and renewal, travel permission for minors, taking number for ID cards, and procedure to get married.
If any queries arise, citizens may call citizen services at 0800 4636 or dial *463 on their cell phones.
