With the help of STATUM, the Banco de Previsión Social (BPS) implements a plan that aims to streamline and improve its internal processes, with the aim of offering a better service to citizens.

"The idea is to generate a solution that allows the bank to quickly carry out processes. In this way, the processes that it has today and that are written can be placed in a system to improve the way employees work and try to automating tasks", commented Pablo Ferrari, the leader of this project on behalf of STATUM.

The idea is to digitize and automate the management of the following processes: complement to the State Insurance Bank that processes the BPS for illness, contribution for prostheses and glasses, change of health provider, debts for mutual reimbursements, and unemployment benefit for dismissal .

Since the system was implemented at the end of 2022, more than 3,200 management requests have already been made.

This system can help ease the workload of the BPS offices in different parts of the country. "What it will allow is to distribute the workload," Ferrari commented. In this way, an official who is in Cologne will be able to analyze processes initiated in Rocha, for example. In addition, he assured, it will allow senior managers of the BPS to obtain more and better information on how work is done throughout the country, where more cases are initiated and if the distribution of the workload is even in all departments.

Eight BPS officials are working on the pilot plan. However, a total of 55 people have already started using this system. "They have done it in different roles: there are people who agree to monitor and others to configure," added Ferrari.

BPS has more than 200 identified processes to place. The idea is that, in the short term, it can be expanded to another 20 processes. The objective is that in the future it can be extended to all processes.

"There is no end date for the project. Little by little, new processes will be added as they are identified," added Ferrari.

Internal processes to be implemented

- Change of health provider

Users of the National Integrated Health System (SNIS) can request a change of health provider when they meet the conditions established for each cause. One of those causes is "affiliated by trade", which is carried out by the BPS to "ensure health coverage". "This happens when a worker enters the system for the first time, upon re-entry into the system after 180 days without mutual affiliation, or when there is a change of category: a worker who retires, a retiree who returns to activity, minors age and spouses", among other reasons. This process enables citizens to change mutual insurance, to hospitals of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) and to comprehensive insurance.

Another cause that implies the change of health provider, and that was contemplated by STATUM for the realization of this project, is the opening period of "regulated mobility". This implies that "those who have at least two years of seniority in the same health provider as of December 31 of the previous year may be changed."

- Contribution for prostheses and lenses

This is a benefit of the BPS that grants economic items to workers who, for health reasons, need to acquire prostheses or lenses, according to a medical prescription. These contributions can be used to purchase sanitary products or articles, common prostheses, fixed surgical, permanent or temporary external orthopedics, hearing aids, wheelchairs and orthoses, that is, non-implantable products that are intended to modify the structural or functional conditions of the neuromuscular or skeletal system. It is the process where more requests are applied. The average duration of the management is two days, Ferrari said.

- BSE supplement to sickness allowance

This internal process allows a worker who suffers a work accident to request the supplement of 3.33% paid by the BPS.

- Unemployment benefit for dismissal

BPS grants this subsidy to those workers who are unemployed against their will due to dismissal or termination of contract. The beneficiaries of this subsidy are private activity workers who provide paid services to third parties, construction workers, rural workers, teachers or teachers, domestic service and sports professionals, among others.

- Mutual reimbursement debts

It is a process that occurs for the debts that arise from the amounts paid by BPS to health providers for improper affiliations, when the responsibility is attributable to the company. "They are generated when companies notify BPS, late, of a change that implies a drop in the quality of beneficiary of health coverage," says the bank's website.
