Uruguayan government speeds up the implementation of artificial intelligence in its procedures
SUMMARY:
The advance of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming operations in various areas of the public administration in Uruguay. A recent survey by the Agency for eGovernment, Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic) and the Access to Public Information Unit (UAIP) indicates that 13 out of 60 State agencies have started to implement AI in their processes.
INFORMATION:
The study, conducted between December 2023 and May 2024, identified 27 AI use cases, of which eight are operational and the rest are in various stages of development.
Among the most common applications with AI are chatbots and monitoring systems, which improve interaction with citizens and process management. For example, the National Insurance Administration has implemented a chatbot in WhatsApp that facilitates the initiation of procedures, while the Ministry of Transport and Public Works uses AI for facial recognition and access monitoring. Other applications include the optimization of vehicle fleet routes and fraud detection in institutions such as the National Post Office Administration and Antel.
Despite these advances, State agencies face significant challenges regarding AI implementation, such as lack of adequate infrastructure, data quality and reliability, and resistance to change. These obstacles require strategic investments and a coordinated approach to achieve a more widespread and efficient implementation of AI in the State, the study asserts.
STATUM and its role in the transformation with AI
In the context of artificial intelligence implementation in the public sector, STATUM, a company with more than 25 years of experience in developing technology solutions, has made significant progress in integrating AI into its Apia BPMS tool. Apia, known for its ability to automate and improve business processes, has incorporated new AI features that allow its users to build faster and more efficient applications without the need for programming.
Among Apia's innovations is an AI-based wizard capable of developing prototypes and documentation in minutes, which facilitates the quick implementation of changes in the companies and public organizations that use it. In addition, it manages process models based on Big Data, which allows it to offer optimized solutions for different sectors.
The AI in Apia not only improves automation, but also allows users to interact using natural language, eliminating the need to navigate complex menus. These qualities position Apia as a strategic tool for modernizing the Uruguayan State and heading towards a more efficient and automated government.
