Do Not Call Registry registration grows in Uruguay
SUMMARY:
The Do Not Call Registry is a tool that allows users to block phone calls for advertising or direct sales purposes. It is managed by URSEC in coordination with mobile operators and marketing companies.
INFORMATION:
Figures for April 2025
To date, there are 373,970 phone numbers registered in the registry. This figure reflects a sustained increase in the number of users choosing to restrict unwanted commercial contacts.
During this period, 187 companies consulted the database to avoid contacting numbers protected by the system.
In parallel, 4,253 reports were filed for calls that allegedly violated the registry.
Technology Platform and Operators
The infrastructure behind the system was developed by STATUM, in coordination with URSEC and the main telephone companies: Antel, Claro, and Movistar.
The digital system guarantees interoperability between actors by centralizing user registration and data queries by companies.
Automated Processes
Operators process registration or deletion requests and send the information to URSEC within a period of up to five business days. This ensures that the database remains up-to-date.
The system automatically filters the company lists and identifies registered numbers. This prevents violations of Decree 353/023.
Registration Channels
Antel offers registration by calling 0800 1622 (landlines), *6622 (mobile phones), SMS to 6622, or through the Mi Antel platform.
Claro and Movistar allow registration by SMS to 6622 or in person at their commercial offices.
How to Report
Those who receive calls after registering can file complaints with URSEC. They must provide the number from which they received the call, the name of the company, and the reason.
This information allows URSEC to analyze patterns of noncompliance and take action in accordance with current regulations.
