SUMMARY:

The Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU), through its General Secretariat, has launched an online procedure for registering notaries' digital signatures, developed in collaboration with STATUM.

INFORMATION:

The registration enables notaries to submit information in compliance with Law No. 18,930, enacted on July 17, 2012, and Law No. 19,484, enacted on January 5, 2017.

Until now, the registration process was managed via email. Notaries were required to send a request to the BCU to register and obtain a digital signature in their capacity as notaries. This procedure has now been replaced by a four-step online process that requires only the applicant's personal and contact information.

As a result, the entire process is completed through a single online form, eliminating email exchanges and the need to submit additional documentation. The registration only needs to be completed once.

Once the form has been submitted, it is forwarded to the BCU's digital signature system, which automatically verifies whether the applicant is a registered notary.

If the validation is successful, the application proceeds automatically for further processing by the institution. If the professional has already been registered, the system notifies them immediately. Likewise, if the applicant is not recognized as a registered notary, the system automatically informs them. In all three cases, the outcome is provided directly within the online procedure, without intermediate steps.
